SHOW 12 Bret Parker

I had Bret in mind to be one of the first people I interviewed and I’m so delighted it finally happened!
Bret comes from a performance background, graduating from Oberlin College in 1991 with a Bachelor’s in English and Performance. She started her (currently) nineteen year career in animation at Pixar as a Production Assistant. Her plan at the time was just to pay the rent while she wrote performance pieces, but quickly fell in love with the art form and never left. Working late nights to pull a showreel together, she landed a position as Fix Animator on A Bug’s Life, and went on to become an Animator on Toy Story 2. She is also an Animation Tools Lead (Monsters University and Brave). In addition to her animation and technical skills, Bret is the voice of DJ Blu-Jay (Small Fry) Jack-Jack’s babysitter, Kari McKeen (Jack-Jack Attack & The Incredibles), Trailer Mom (Monsters Inc) and is credited as ‘Additional Voices’ in Monsters University. Along side her job at Pixar, Bret is an Associate Professor of Animation at California College of the Arts.
With such a busy schedule, I’m really grateful Bret took some time out of her lunch break to talk to me. I had a wonderful time and learnt so much chatting with her I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

I am obsessed with this episode! I always go back to this one over and over again. It has so many golden nuggets of advice, I learn something new every time I listen to it. It’s my “I can do this episode!” If I am feeling down or in a runt, I always find myself relisten for a boost of encouragement.

Courtney, that’s great to hear! We all have those days… months sometimes ;) I’m glad it helps you out. Thanks for writing, it’s been a while since I done one, but your encouragement pushes me to do more!
