Show 17 Charlie Bonifacio

It was great pleasure to talk with Charlie, one the most respected animators of our time.

Though my own career Charlie’s name just kept coming up in conversations and so I decided to track him down, only to discover he’s one of the most amazing animators in the industry today who has worked on most of my favourite characters and films (I’m sure your’s too!) and to top it all off, he’s incredibly lovely! Charlie is not one for self promotion and so I am immensely grateful to Wayne Gilbert and Chuck Gammage (mutual friends of Charlie and I) for their writing to Charlie on my behalf and urging him to chat, which lead Charlie agreeing to be ‘put on the spot’.
Charlie’s work over his busy forty year career took him through TV shorts ‘A Cosmic Christmas’, ‘Runaway Robots! Romie-O and Julie-8’ and TV movies ‘The Star Wars Holiday Special’, ‘Easter Fever’ as well as the TV series ‘Inspector Gadget’ and finally to feature films, working on The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven, FernGully, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan and Lilo & Stitch… of course, this only covers a few… He’s been an assistant, an additional animator, an animation director, a Mentor to many and a highly sought after teacher. He has a busy family life and is a Thai Chi Master with all this on his plate, I was really grateful that he could take the time out to have a good long, chat. Enjoy.

Great interview! A wonderful combination of great questions and well articulated answers! The answer of the difference between good and great animators was very helpful.

    Thank you both!
